Working out and/or running on the weekends has never been a strength of mine…ever. I am very pleased to announce that I got in not one, but two runs this weekend despite my somewhat busy schedule with the family. I am going to have to get used to running on the weekend now that I have signed up for the BAA Half in October, especially since I want to train the right way this time.
After work on Friday I headed home to my parents’ house for the night and woke up bright an early on Saturday morning. When I say the weather at 6am was perfect running weather, I literally mean it was perfect. It was high 60s, low 70s and sunny. My parents live in a pretty rural/wooded area and I was more than happy to do my “long” run for this week somewhere other than the city. The run was not fast, I felt a little sluggish but the scenery around my parents’ town is breathtaking.
I also loved the fact that I was the only one out. Unlike the city, I did not have to stop at every corner for a stop light or dodge cars/people starting directly down at their phone while walking down the sidewalk. During the whole 5.5 miles I ran, I only saw one other person and it was a biker (another early bird wooohoo!). At some points during the run I would forget I was even running because I was too busy appreciating my surroundings.
My splits were all around the same time: 8:18, 8:21, 8:17, 8:18, 8:27, 4:25 (last .55) respectively. Those times are all fine, but I really want to try to keep my longer runs sub 8:00 miles. I have been consistently been between 7:15-7:45 on most runs and I’d really like to see how long I can keep that going.
After my run and some core work, my family headed up to NH to celebrate my grandparents’ 50th Anniversary. The entire family stayed in a mansion for the weekend, complete with a pool, 65 acres of land, and unbelievable views. The house itself was gorgeous. I did some exploring around the property and decided I would like to live there forever. It certainly wins versus my tiny apartment in the city. Don’t get me wrong, I love my apartment, but this place is just unreal. Kind of like fake life.
It was such a nice day to celebrate a monumental anniversary and my grandparents’ were psyched to have so many people there to enjoy it with them. Since moving from my parents’ house I don’t get to see them a whole lot so I am always happy to spend weekends/days with them every so often. I’m a little bit of a homebody I guess.
Sunday we left pretty early and I headed back to my apartment to get some errands done and bought about 500 million pounds of vegetables on top of the 400 pounds of vegetables my mother gave me from their time share. You can never have enough veggies! Sunday was a lot warmer than the day before so I waited to get my 3 miles in until 6pm and the run did not feel great. I don’t do well with heat and I am much more of a morning runner. I got through my 3 miles (7:43, 8:27, 8:14, see my workout log for my details) and got on with my evening. I went to a little mini cookout at a friend’s house (the ton of vegetables I have came in handy for dipping) and that was that. I am ready to take on the week!
This week’s training schedule is as follows:
Monday: non run day, swim in the AM (I swam for an hour this morning, 3000 meters)
Tuesday: 3 mile run, swim or yoga
Wednesday: 30 min run (quicker pace, see how much I can get done in 30 min)
Thursday: 3 mile run, plus strength
Friday: easy run, possible swim
Saturday: 6 mile run (long run for the week)
Sunday: 3 mile run
I am looking forward to a great week ahead! Happy Monday!

I’m so jealous of your open road running! I miss not having to stop at lights. And, wow, I’d say those low 8′s are a great pace! What race pace are you going for?
You and your mom look so much alike! Pretty ladies!
I really would love to stay sub 8:00 on my longer runs. Hopefully my next one on Saturday will be better. Positive thoughts! Thanks for stopping by Melissa
